Community Emergency Response Team (CERT)

Volunteers Helping First Responders

Nationally, CERT Volunteers are trained and equipped to support first responders during an emergency or disaster such as winter storms, floods, wildfires, earthquakes or tsunamis.

CERT In The Nehalem Bay Region

Nehalem Bay Region CERT members supplement local emergency services ranging from lost child searches to traffic control, including non-emergency events such as the Manzanita 4th of July parade. They provide food and water to our first responders during an event. Local CERTS are working on developing methods to assist in organizing the initial response at Assembly Areas including developing task cards and systems that can reduce chaos and panic.

Training Opportunities

Training for new Nehalem Bay CERT members is offered twice each year, and a disaster simulation exercise qualifies new CERT members. CERT volunteers are trained in disaster first aid, triage, light search and rescue, fire safety, community and personal preparedness, disaster psychology and the Incident Command System (ICS).

Once you become a CERT member, you are encouraged to take a series of ICS courses. As you complete courses, forward a copy of your certificate to CERT@evcnb.org.

The Nehalem Bay CERT program holds five bimonthly meetings each year to provide additional training. CERT members also conduct regular drills to practice essential skills.

Our CERTs support our communities and first responders by serving in times of emergency. We may be asked to provide first aid, monitor a parade, help first responders with traffic control, help staff a shelter, assist with search-and-rescue, and many other activities. CERT training also teaches you emergency response skills that help your own family’s preparedness. We hold regular training and events; we hope you’ll join us!
