GoBags

Your First Step to Preparedness

When disaster strikes there may be little or no time to gather the essential items you will need. That’s where your GoBag comes into play. Simply stock a backpack or duffel with the essential supplies you need to survive for 3 days and keep it in a convenient place to grab and go. Then celebrate that you have accomplished the first step toward being prepared.

What Types Of Supplies Are Needed In A GoBag?

It is important to remember a GoBag needs to be light enough to grab and go. Pack smart and don’t forget to include any personal items you will need, such as prescriptions, eye glasses or hearing aides.

All GoBags should include these essential items:

  • Items to keep you warm and dry (e.g., waterproof poncho, gloves, hand warmers to place under your arms, mylar sleeping bag)

  • Drinking water supply and water filtration system

  • 3 day supply of food (e.g. Coast Guard food bars)

  • Whistle (a good quality one to call for help if necessary)

  • 30-day supply of prescription medications

  • Basic first aid supplies

  • Light source (e.g. headlamp or flashlight with batteries)

  • Hand sanitizer

Essential GoBag

EVCNB offers a variety of supplies and a fully stocked Essential GoBag for purchase at the GoBag Pop-Up Shop. The Essential GoBag contains all the necessary items for one person for 3 days. Of course you will need to add any essential personal items. Volunteers at the Store will be happy to evaluate your existing GoBag or consult with you about building a new one.

TIP: Refresh prescription medication and pet food quarterly. Check expiration dates on food and water packs.

What About My Pets?

Pets need a grab and go bag of emergency supplies too. Consider the essential items your pet(s) would need for 3 days. Learn more on our Pet Preparedness page.

What If A Disaster Strikes At Night?

If a disaster strikes while you are sleeping, the power likely will be out and windows could have shattered. Major earthquakes often cause doors to slam closed and door frames to shift making it very difficult to get out.

It’s quick and easy to build an Under the Bed Kit for you and each member of your household. Simply bag up the necessary supplies and tie them to the leg of the bed to keep them in place during an earthquake. Basic items to include in an Under the Bed Kit are:

  • Hard soled shoes

  • Light source (preferably a headlamp to free up your hands)

  • Leather gloves

  • Crowbar

GoBags are the grab-and-go cache we all make in case of emergency or natural disaster. Earthquake? Floods, tornadoes and windstorms? Wildfires? Our team of volunteers has 15 years of expertise to help you stock a bag for your family, pets, and children. We invite you to take the first step of emergency preparedness and get in touch!
