EVCNB Hosts Webinar on Wildfire Preparedness
In the wake of Oregon’s 2020 wildfire season and the close proximity of the Pike Road fire, the largest fire in Tillamook County in the last 40 years, the EVCNB hosted a public webinar on wildfire prevention and preparedness. Panelists Ed Wallmark from Oregon Department of Forestry and Nehalem Bay Fire Chief Chris Beswick provided details on last summers fire season, along with advice for fire prevention and evacuation. EVCNB volunteer Jo Cooper talked about the CERT program and the upcoming training schedule.
Linda Cook, EVCNB volunteer and Neahkahnie resident, joined the panel to share how she put her knowledge and experience in emergency preparedness to work, as the possibility of evacuation became all too real this past summer. She realized that preparing for evacuation because of fire is different in some ways from other types of disaster. In thinking about evacuating by automobile, Linda compiled the following information to share with family and friends during the 2020 wildfire disasters. EVCNB will be assessing their role in expanding wildfire preparedness, but in the meantime is thankful that Linda is allowing us to share this information with our readers.
