A drill was held at the North County Recreation District (NCRD) on May 3. The NCRD is one of the EVCNB emergency shelters in the Nehalem Bay area.

The exercise scenario included a severe storm with no power, roads blocked, major flooding, no phones or cell tower availability.

Our very own Velda Handler has been recognized during National Volunteer Week. Velda is EVCNB’s Nehalem Bay Medical Reserve Corps Coordinator and Shelters Division Lead. She also serves on EVCNB’s executive committee and board as Secretary.

Oregon State University (OSU) and the Emergency Volunteer Corps of Nehalem Bay presented the results of a disaster related study coordinated by OSU engineering staff.

The Oregon Coast can be susceptible to a variety of natural disasters, which could cause us to be cut off from food, water and power for extended periods. Having enough food and water to last for at least 30 days is an important part of preparing for emergencies.

A big thank you to all who attended our 2nd Annual Top Chef Emergency Food Cooking Contest! It was a fantastic evening of fun, food, and exuberance with a bit of emergency preparedness sprinkled in. The event’s success was way beyond our wildest dreams!

Thanks to everyone who participated in the Great Oregon Shakeout. This year’s exercise was coordinated across Tillamook County. The results of the exercise are included in the article.

Today (February 24, 2024) members of Rockaway Beach CERT participated in a mass casualty incident drill as part of their final task for becoming official CERT members.

Lee Hiltenbrand has been a volunteer for EVCNB for many years, sharing his extensive technical and mechanical skills for the good of the organization and the community. He now serves as the lead for our Mass Care group and the Public Works Augmentation Team (PWAT).

Winter is a quiet season for our Clusters but Cluster leaders are working hard behind the scenes, planning social & educational events for their neighborhoods and tending emergency supplies — but some social events happened too…

Tillamook County now boasts 12 new licensed Ham Radio Technician class radio operators thanks to EVCNB and a group of dedicated ham radio instructors.

The “Top Chef” Cooking Contest was a HUGE success.

At its January meeting, the EVCNB Board of Directors announced the retirement of President Margaret Steele, M.D. and named Trish Johnson its new President. Brad Hart has been named Vice President.

Pastor Celeste Deveney and longtime volunteer Bobbi Mosher of Nehalem Bay United Methodist Church were on hand to receive a donation of 10 Go-Bags from EVCNB.
