Regional Partners Unite for Red Cross Shelter Training at Manzanita Calvary Bible Church

The American Red Cross conducted a comprehensive Shelter Exercise at Manzanita Calvary Bible Church, one of the three designated North County EVCNB emergency shelter facilities. Red Cross trainers Jaime and Hannah led the session, guiding volunteers through essential shelter operations and coordination practices.

A total of 31 participants attended the training. The workshop emphasized the importance of working alongside partner organizations to ensure shared skills, consistent practices, and familiarity with common equipment and supplies. Key topics included how to request Red Cross support or backup for a community shelter, how shelter volunteers are activated, an overview of Shelter Fundamentals, and rotating hands-on stations for practical experience.

Participants also reviewed the Shelter Trailer and received an orientation on generator operation following the exercise.

Partner organizations represented included:
EVCNB (Shelter Volunteers, CERTs, NBMRC, WaSH, and Communications), Wheeler Emergency Team, Netarts Emergency Response Volunteers, Rockaway Beach community members, Cannon Beach CERT and MRC teams, South Tillamook County Emergency Volunteer Corps, community participants, and the Generator Support Team.

We extend our sincere appreciation to the local facility owners who make their buildings available for emergency sheltering, and to the Red Cross for their ongoing partnership and support. Several attendees expressed interest in becoming Red Cross volunteers—a strong sign of growing community engagement.

Every training session, volunteer, and partner strengthens our collective emergency preparedness and helps ensure our North County communities are safer and more resilient.
