Drop! Cover! Hold On! Get to High Ground!
Practice With Your Neighbors at the Great ShakeOut, October 15
On Thursday, October 15 at 10:15 a.m., people across Tillamook County will practice what to do when a major earthquake hits: Drop, Cover, Hold On, then evacuate. This is the fourth year the Tillamook County Citizen Corps Council (TC4) has sponsored the Great ShakeOut countywide, and participation keeps growing. Last year 3,921 people took part, up from 455 in the first year.
Here on the coast, the shaking is our warning to get to high ground, so our ShakeOut goes beyond ducking under a table. After you Drop, Cover and Hold On, practice walking out of the tsunami zone to a safe place and checking in.
Where to go in North County
EVCNB volunteers will staff six Assembly Areas that morning:
Manzanita City Hall
Manzanita Transfer Station
Nehalem Bay Fire & Rescue (Champ Field)
Nehalem City Park
Nehalem Valley Assembly Area
Wheeler City Park
When you arrive, a volunteer will greet you, check you in and share preparedness information. Your check-in matters. Attendance from each site is radioed to net control and then relayed to the county Emergency Operations Center, the same path information would travel after a real earthquake. Everyone who checks in at an Assembly Area goes home with a free GoBag item.
If you belong to a Prepare Your Neighborhood group, you can also practice at your Neighborhood Gathering Site. Check with your cluster lead about your group's plans.
