EVCNB Celebrates 15 Years. Public Celebration Announced.

February 2023 marks the 15th anniversary of EVCNB! After the “Great Coastal Gale” in December 2007, the community realized how easily our area can be isolated by natural disasters. Responders worked over 36 hours without support, while people watching and wanting to help, didn't know how to engage. Our community did not have a way to work with our responders. Further, most people didn’t have the basic supplies they would need to ensure their own safety following an emergency.

In February 2008, over 100 people gathered to talk about what could be done. A program from Washington State called Map Your Neighborhood was presented and the community took hold of the idea. Our neighborhood teams began, becoming the foundation of everything EVCNB!

EVCNB has grown into a strong organization, primarily of volunteers, who work to “Promote a Culture of Preparedness''. Many in our community are prepared with GoBags and other essential supplies that will provide the shelter, food and water that they will need when another natural disaster strikes.

Our success is because of your passion to make a safer, more resilient community. As a community-based nonprofit, we launch and support neighborhood teams, teach preparedness skills classes, run three volunteer response corps, maintain much of the radio infrastructure in this area, and so much more. It is because of this success that we need to launch our first volunteer newsletter, The Rising Tide! This short newsletter will:

  • Have a featured story or preparedness tip,

  • celebrate volunteer achievements,

  • highlight upcoming events for you and your family, and

  • provide small and large opportunities for you to create a more prepared community.

Look for The Rising Tide in your inbox starting January, 2023.

Join our celebration on Saturday, February 4th, 1-3pm at the NCRD!
